Geometry is our number one most requested subject for academic tutoring. Why? We have found that many students struggle with some of the concepts from algebra that are needed to finish off geometry problems.
Geometry Requires A Strong Foundation in Algebra
First, we review Algebra I (or topics 1-2 for those folks in Gilbert) and make sure that students can score a 95%+ on their algebra fundamentals. It is essential for students to be near perfect at fractions, graphing, adding and subtracting negative numbers, and solving linear equations. Algebra class came first for a reason. After a review of algebra, we go over each new geometry vocab word (usually within the first three chapters of the textbook), since these words are used over and over through the year.
Getting the 'A' in Geometry Through Tutoring
With some help students are within range of quickly catching up on the material. It is not unreasonable to expect students to start scoring A's and B's within a week or so from their first tutoring session. This class is challenging for students that didn't retain much from their Algebra I class previously. Fortunately students that work with us can catch up quickly after some practice and review. Geometry itself can be a very interesting class. Students that didn't enjoy algebra tend to enjoy geometry class MUCH more.
